Slum Soccer

Slum soccer is a unique organization that leverages the power of football for youth development while also promoting the development of football. Started in Nagpur in 2001, the organization has scaled to 20 Indian cities through the following initiatives.
Hoonartek has partnered with Slum Soccer under the CSR initiative till 2018.
Slum soccer’s core program aims to develop sporting and life skills of participants between the ages of 8 and 18 through a curriculum of football integrated with learning. The curriculum is customized to suit local social conditions and addresses a range of topics from education to environment and gender to HIV and employability.
A core focus of the program is leadership development, facilitated by allowing seasoned players to assume positions of responsibility. As part of its endeavour to promote football, Slum soccer organizes tournaments at the local, state and national levels.
The national tournament, currently in its 13th edition, is used to select the team that represents India at the Homeless World Cup (HWC). HWC is an annual football tournament organized by the HWC Foundation, which also provides capacity building support to grassroots football programs in developing countries. To date, Slum Soccer has sent 7 teams to the World Cup.
