The Client
One of South Asia’s major banking and financial services institutions, this organization operates across retail, commercial, and institutional banking with a customer base in the tens of millions. Managing data across 120+ source systems – spanning finance, marketing, risk, digital channels, and CRM – the bank faced mounting pressure to modernize its data infrastructure to accelerate decision-making, meet evolving regulatory requirements, and unlock the commercial potential of its customer data assets.
The Challenge
-
Data Fragmentation:
Data spread across 120+ systems caused slow, stale insights and made enterprise-wide analytical consistency impossible.
-
PII and Compliance Risk:
5 petabytes of high-risk PII data lacked proper governance, creating material exposure under DPDP and other regulatory frameworks.
-
Manual Controls and Weak Data Quality:
Manual governance controls and persistent data quality issues eroded compliance confidence and slowed regulatory reporting cycles.
-
Erosion of Data Trust:
Inconsistent definitions across systems reduced business confidence in data, constraining data-driven decision-making at the enterprise level.
The Impact
- 98% Faster insight delivery from 30 hours to under 45 minutes
- 1,200+ Dashboards and reports built and supported
- 50% Faster data-driven credit assessments.
The Solution
Hoonartek designed and built a new Enterprise Data Platform using a modern Lakehouse architecture, engineered for faster data access and improved decision-making at every level of the organization. 120+ data systems spanning finance, marketing, risk, digital, and external data sources were connected to ensure data completeness and accuracy across the enterprise. Data layers were standardized using medallion architecture (Bronze – Silver – Gold), aligned to raw, cleansed, and business-ready datasets respectively.
Comprehensive governance, lineage tracking, and automated monitoring controls were implemented across the platform. Secure data marts were established with DevOps pipelines, higher data quality standards, and PII protection aligned to DPDP. A unified Customer 360 view was created by integrating data from digital channels, transaction systems, and CRM, directly enabling a 7% uplift in cross-sell and upsell performance. The full enterprise platform was implemented in 15 months.
