That was the Informatica PowerCenter support end date, the day standard support for PowerCenter 10.5.x stopped. Not the day it stopped working. Those are different things, and the gap between them is where the risk sits. Most enterprises running PowerCenter didn’t miss the announcement. They just have hundreds of mappings, years of business logic, and downstream systems that depend on all of it, and none of that untangles on a vendor’s timeline. What Does “End of Support” Actually Mean for PowerCenter?

End of support doesn’t mean Informatica flips a switch and PowerCenter stops running. Your jobs execute on April 1 exactly like they did on March 30. What ends is everything around the software: no new bug fixes, no security patches, no compatibility updates for the databases and operating systems it talks to, no new features. The Informatica PowerCenter 10.5 end of life applies to the entire 10.5.x line, and it’s documented in the Informatica Product Lifecycle Guide, the reference most migration teams check before making a call on timing.

Informatica extended support fills the gap for organizations that aren’t ready to move. It runs through March 31, 2027, at a premium over standard licensing, and it’s worth calling your account team directly rather than assuming the terms match what you had under standard support. After that, Informatica PowerCenter sustaining support carries on in a much narrower form until 2029. Sustaining support isn’t a safety net. It’s triage: critical issues only, no systemic fixes, and a shrinking pool of engineers who still know the platform well enough to work on it. Every organization on 10.5.x, whether you’re running a single node or a domain spread across a dozen integration services, is subject to the same clock. That shift got sharper in November 2025, when Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica for roughly $8 billion and started folding its data management stack into Agentforce 360. Informatica isn’t going away, but it’s no longer an independent company setting its own roadmap. Its investment is concentrated squarely in the cloud platform Salesforce paid for, not in a client-server tool built when data centers were still the default.

None of that is a secret. Informatica has been telegraphing this move since it first announced PowerCenter 10.4’s end of support back in December 2022, years before the Salesforce deal was even on the table. The direction has been consistent: fewer resources for the on-premises engine, more for the platform that can sell governed, AI-ready data into whatever Salesforce is building next.

What Happens If You Keep Running Unsupported PowerCenter?

Nothing breaks on day one. That’s exactly what makes this risk easy to underestimate. Here’s what actually accumulates:

  • Security exposure grows quietly. No patches means every new vulnerability found in PowerCenter’s stack stays open indefinitely.
  • Compatibility drift sets in. The databases, operating systems, and cloud services PowerCenter talks to keep shipping updates. PowerCenter doesn’t. Eventually something on the other end changes and your integration breaks with no vendor fix coming.
  • Expertise gets scarce. Engineers who know PowerCenter well are increasingly working on newer platforms, and replacing that knowledge gets harder every year support has been gone.
  • Costs climb sideways. Extended and sustaining support both cost more for less coverage, and teams often end up paying for workarounds a supported platform would have handled for free.
  • Audits get harder to pass. Compliance frameworks increasingly ask whether critical systems run on vendor-supported software. Unsupported PowerCenter is a flag that auditors and cyber insurers now know to look for, not an edge case they overlook.

None of this shows up as an outage. It shows up as a slow accumulation of risk that eventually forces a rushed migration instead of a planned one. The organizations that come out ahead treat the support end date as the start of a clock, not as background noise to revisit later.

PowerCenter vs. Informatica Cloud (IDMC/IICS): What’s the Difference?

This confuses more people than it should, partly because Informatica has renamed its cloud platform twice. PowerCenter is the original on-premises, client-server ETL engine: a repository, an integration service, and jobs built in a desktop client. Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services, IICS, was the cloud-native platform Informatica launched to eventually replace it, built as SaaS from the ground up. IICS has since been absorbed into the broader Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud, IDMC, which is what most people mean today when they say Informatica Cloud.

They are not the same product, and they don’t share an architecture. PowerCenter jobs don’t run natively on IDMC. They need to be converted, and that conversion is most of the actual migration effort. Administration differs too. PowerCenter is managed through the Informatica Admin Console, the web-based Informatica Administrator tool that handles domain services, repositories, node configuration, and user permissions for an on-premises deployment. IDMC’s administration is built for a multi-tenant SaaS model instead, with organization-level governance replacing a lot of what used to be manual console work.

Licensing works differently too, and this is where a lot of the sticker shock comes from. PowerCenter is typically licensed as a fixed, perpetual cost. IDMC and the rest of Informatica Cloud run on consumption-based pricing tied to processing units, which can be more predictable at small scale and considerably harder to forecast once volumes grow. Anyone budgeting a move to IDMC should model a few different usage scenarios before signing, not just the one the sales deck shows.

What Are Your Options After PowerCenter End of Support?

Three paths, roughly in order of how much time they buy you.

Pay for extended support. This keeps PowerCenter running exactly as it is, at a higher cost, through March 2027. It’s a reasonable stopgap if a migration is already planned and just needs runway, not a strategy on its own.

Modernize to IDMC. Informatica’s own PowerCenter to Cloud Modernization program claims it can move workloads to the cloud in a couple of months, reusing most existing PowerCenter assets and cutting migration costs by roughly half compared to a rebuild. For organizations that want to stay in the Informatica ecosystem, this is the path Informatica is actively building tooling around.

Migrate off PowerCenter entirely. Not every organization wants to stay on the same vendor’s roadmap, especially with that roadmap now set inside Salesforce. Some move Informatica PowerCenter workloads to a different ETL engine like Ab Initio. Others fold the migration into a broader cloud data warehouse move, converting Informatica jobs alongside a shift to Snowflake or Databricks. Both are real Informatica PowerCenter alternatives, and the right one depends on what the rest of your data estate looks like, not just what PowerCenter used to do.

There’s no universally correct answer here, and anyone who tells you otherwise is usually selling one of the three options. What matters is matching the choice to your actual constraints: how much of your stack is already committed to Salesforce or Informatica more broadly, how tolerant your budget is of usage-based pricing, and whether the workloads running in PowerCenter are simple data movement or the kind of rules-heavy logic that’s painful to rebuild anywhere.

How Should Enterprises Plan a PowerCenter Migration?

Whatever direction you pick, planning an Informatica PowerCenter migration follows a similar shape. Inventory every workflow, mapping, and repository object actually in use, not just what’s documented. Separate simple data-movement jobs from the heavier, rules-driven ones. Complex transformations, reconciliations, and matching logic tend to be the most expensive to migrate and the easiest to underestimate. Prioritize by business risk: migrate the workloads that are easiest to validate first, and save the business-critical ones for once the pattern is proven. Run the old and new systems in parallel before cutover and reconcile the output, row by row if you have to, because a clean-looking migration that silently drops or duplicates records is worse than a slow one.

The biggest planning mistake is treating this as a single, all-at-once cutover. PowerCenter estates built up over a decade rarely move cleanly in one motion, and forcing it usually turns a manageable project into a fire drill. A phased approach, migrating by business domain or by source system rather than by arbitrary batches, gives you a working reference point at every stage. If wave three breaks something, you know exactly what changed, instead of debugging a thousand mappings that all moved on the same weekend.
