The Client
A leading global investment management firm distributing fund data to a wide range of internal and external consumers, tmanages a complex fund data lifecycle spanning multiple geographies, consumer formats, and delivery schedules. Reliable, accurate, and timely fund data distribution is central to its obligations to clients, distribution partners, and regulators.
The Challenge
Fund data distribution relied on fragmented, manually intensive processes that could not scale reliably or meet the demands of consistent data quality of a growing consumer base. The absence of automated controls and end-to-end lineage meant data issues were slow to detect, difficult to trace, and costly to resolve
-
Fragmented Distribution Processes:
Fund data was sourced and distributed through disconnected, manual-heavy processes with no unified platform governing quality or delivery across the consumer base.
-
Inconsistent Data Quality:
Lack of embedded quality controls meant data issues propagated downstream, creating problems for clients and distribution channels that were difficult to pinpoint and resolve.
-
Slow, Effort-Heavy Consumer Delivery:
Meeting the varied format and timing requirements of multiple consumers was slow and operationally expensive, limiting the firm’s ability to scale to new funds and distribution channels.
-
Limited Controls and Lineage:
Without automated lineage capture, tracing data issues back to their source required significant manual investigation, extending resolution times and increasing operational risk.
-
Scalability Constraints:
Adding new funds or consumers placed disproportionate strain on the existing process, making growth operationally unsustainable without a platform-level solution.
The Impact
- 80% Fewer release issues.
- ~30% Saving on build effort.
- 90% Feed coverage by automated testing.
The Solution
Hoonartek built an Ab Initio DevFac platform to source, validate, and provision fund data across the full distribution lifecycle. The platform automates delivery to multiple consumers in their required formats and at their required timings, eliminating the manual effort and inconsistency that had previously characterized each distribution cycle.
Data-quality rules and reconciliation logic were embedded across the fund data lifecycle, ensuring issues are caught and resolved before they reach consumers. Hoonartek introduced data profiling as part of the design phase, which significantly reduced rework and change requests further into delivery. Full end-to-end lineage is captured in Metadata Hub, giving the firm traceability from source to consumer for every data point. TheDevFac automated test framework assured every feed, building a regression pack that protects against future changes. The completed scope has been transitioned to steady-state BAU across multiple geographies.
Key Benefits
-
Fewer Defects:
80% fewer release issues versus prior cycles, a direct result of embedded quality controls and automated assurance across the delivery pipeline.
-
Reliable, On-Schedule Releases:
Approximately 30% saving on build effort, with consecutive on-schedule drops replacing the unpredictable delivery cadence of the legacy process.
-
Assured Feeds:
90% of feeds covered by automated testing, with a regression pack in place to protect against the impact of future changes.
-
Full Lineage:
End-to-end traceability captured in Metadata Hub enables the firm to trace any data point from consumer back to source, supporting audit, investigation, and governance.
-
Sustainable BAU:
Completed scope transitioned to steady-state BAU across multiple geographies, with a scalable platform in place to absorb new funds and consumers without operational strain.
